Who can take care of my cat while I’m on vacation ?

My friend and I are planning to go to Seattle in August . We don’t know who we can ask to take care of my cat while we’re gone . What are some things other pet owners do with THEIR pets when they go on vacation ?

If you live in a house with a backyard, ask a next door neighbor to feed it, this way your cat can stay in its territory, and you don’t need to book a pet motel. You can ask family or friends, or just book a pet motel

It depends on how long you are going away. My cats are usually fine for 3 or 4 days; just put out extra bowls of food and water. If you’re going for any longer than that, a friend or neighbor could come by to make sure their food is full and the litter box doesn’t get too out of control. Cats are pretty self sufficient, so you shouldn’t need to take them to a kennel or anything. He’ll probably be happier at home as long as someone can stop by every day or so to make sure he has everything he needs.

    It’s all about duration.

A couple of nights and you can just leave extra food and extra litter in your house.

If its a week or two weeks you may be able to get a reliable friend or relative to come in once or twice a day and feed, clean and check that your cats are ok.

If your talking two weeks plus it may be worth looking into catteries in your area as then you can be safe in the knowledge your cat is been taken care of all day. Just make sure you use a cattery which is recommended by people you know and one that has had good reviews.

I always have a trusted relative watch my cat. My cat gets depressed if I leave for a long period of time, so I try to make sure he’s around familiar people while I’m gone. I leave detailed instructions on how to treat my cat, warning signs to look out for, when to feed him, what NOT to feed him, etc. I also leave his doctor’s information, information on the emergency vet and a credit card to pay for any potential vet bills should he become ill while I’m not there and need to go to the hospital.

You can ask someone you trust like a friend, relative or neighbor. My sister watches my cat when I’m not home for days.

Or you can leave them at a vet’s office that boards cats. Which means that they stay there with the vet and the vet takes care of them until you come back. I think all vets have boarding but you should call your vet and ask.
