You don’t say what area you are in, but look in your local yellow pages for a no-kill animal shelter. If you are having problems locating one, try asking a neighborhood vet. He/she may be familiar with shelters in the area. Or post an ad in a local paper.

try taking it to the APL or a shelter. We have a no-kill shelter near us where no matter how long they have the animal they won’t have it euthanized.

I hope you don’t take the answers of these idiots that basically told you to just dump it. If you care for the animal then you will try everyting in your power to place it in a no kill shelter or with a loving family. This is your responsibilty to ensure the animal is safe since you can no longer care for it. A cat that has been domesticated and has relied on you for food and shelter will not survive very long on a freeway,a park or any old street. Please do the research necessary to find your cat a safe and happy home even if its a no kill shelter, and they are out there. Good luck and I hope you do the right thing. As you can tell by some of the responses you received that people are not to bright when it comes to animals and hopefully will never own one and that is why you also need to screen anyone that says they will take him. Also, a newspaper may not be the best wat either because you can she the mentallity of people out there.

With out getting tin trouble the best place to take it would be the animal shelter. You have to say that the cat is a stray, otherwise they might have a charge for it. If you have the money turn him in as a owner turn in… that way he has more chance to be adopted… they ask you things about the cat and then information is saved for the next owner. Which gives the cat a better chance at life.
