What animal is easier to take care of, a dog or a cat?

I love both species, but cats are easier to take care of since you can leave them at home alone for a couple of days as long as you provide them with plenty of food and water and cats don’t get walked. I have one dog and three cats.

In all honesty, both animals require the same amount of care. While cats do not have to be taken for walks, they still need interaction, exercise to keep their weight in check and love and companionship just as much as dogs. It is the “if I leave them food and water for a few days they will be fine” that caused a lot of pets to become dead in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

I think it would depend on the animal. But a cat usually cares for itself, other than your duty of some attention and food.

I have a cat who would beg to differ. I can’t leave her alone for a couple days, she goes bananas. She hates to see the bottom of her food bowl (I think it grosses her out) and will pitch a fit if it is not heaping at every moment. She likes to get brushed while we sit on the couch to watch TV at night, she will meow at you untill you get her brush out. I have another cat who to my knowledge does not even LIKE us, she only tolerates us for food. I also have The Boys (2 stay kittens that moved in) who if left to their own devices for 24 hours I fully elive would 1st destroy the house 2nd torment the other 2 cats and 3rd eat themselves sick.
To me, dogs are far easier.

having had both.. and at the moment baby sitting my daughters papillon..its cats.. a neutered cat needs less care and interaction than a dog..cats are very play full when young but as they get older..they sleep alot. also dogs are pack animals and need more attention…unlike cats who are not.
.some dogs if left by themselves even while you are at work will act out and can be destructive, especially ones who are kept indoors.
and normally, barring hurricanes…you can go away for the weekend and leave your cat with food and water and he will be fine..dogs ..i would not recommend it. dogs are also more expensive to maintain..( my daughter buy clothes for her two) lol..cats are happy with the simple things..and they do not bark and annoy the neighbors.

deff. cats. you dont have to walk them. they can catch their own food if they get lost. they ALWAYS come back if they get out. their more tame and are always nice to your house guests. also they dont make as much as a mess as of a dog. hope i helped =]
