How to best care for a pregnant cat with limited means?

A stray cat that prowls in our neighborhood sort of moved in with us and we recently noticed that her stomach is swelling and her nipples are enlarged. Obviously she’s pregnant. This is her first litter and we want to know how to take care of her, but don’t have enough money to take her to a vet at the moment (f*ck, i can’t even go to a doctor right now). So what are the steps? she’s been very slightly showing for 3 weeks now.

you really don’t need to do anything. cats are very self sufficient. You probably won’t even be able to get around her to see the kittens. She will pick a quiet spot to have the litter.

Just make sure she gets enough to eat and plenty of water. Maybe get her a box with an old towel in it for a bed and put it some where sort of hidden, in a closet or something like that. She should be fine other wise.

give her plenty of clean water, good food and shelter a nice roomy box and clean comfy towels and a good flea control if you can afford it. nature will take its course. don’t know where you live but here in fl animal control will come and spade the wild cats and reset them free. see if your local SPCA has a program that will fix her for you after the little ones come along if you plan to keep her, she will come in handy keeping mice away.
