Of course, there are many good cat books and websites out there. Local shelters are teeming with people who will help with any question you or your friend have and your local Vet will also have advice on health care, food, shots, etc.

And of course, here. Now please take this advice: If the cat is sick, lethargic (acting dopey, drowsy, won’t stand up or move and is limp), has the runs or is throwing up , DON’T go online. Run for the Vet. The local Vet as well as the mentioned sites have advice on what to look for as taking a cat to the Vet and when.

Here’s the best advice for your friend and you: Learn now. Then get the cat of your dreams. Check out the different breeds at the Cat Fanciers site, then hit the adoption centers and shelters. Chances are for real that you will find the furry love of your life there.

On the article on bringing a new kitten into the house, I would skip the suggestion of a cat bed, and forget about Feliway.

The second and third links pertain to food and feeding, written by the Cornell Vet school. They do not suggest a specific brand, but indicate what to look for in food.
